Why Do People Say Obama Is Balck?
isn’t he half white as well?
so i would be just as right saying he is white as those people saying he’s black..is that a fair assumption?
or does it just go to show that people in america do judge a book by its cover and can’t see past that?

we, people, shouldn’t judge a person by its cover, unfortunatly this world is superficial.
I am italian and here in Italy TV doesn’t refer to Obama as black, reporters do not say anything about his appearance, they simply tell what he does!
Anyway he looks black…

Most of the answers so far have been pretty decent to I will just add one thing. History plays a part in this too. Many, many years ago, whenever someone was interracial, white with something else. They were usually rejected by the white side and embraced by the other side. So blacks embraced the interracial children and considered them black. Same with naive Americans and other races. However, the other races had issues with interracial children, but in general, if you were interracial you were considered the darker race by your white relatives.
As the mother of bi-racial children I try to instill in my children that they are both. However the society that we live, for centuries, has considered people black if they are mixed. When people see my children they consider them to be black, I know it is something they have to come to terms in while finding their own identity, just as Obama had to. What difference does it make whether he is black, white, or other as long as he is the best candidate for the position?
It would be great if we lived in a color-blind Utopia where people were just Americans but unfortunately that’s not the case. White people made the decision hundreds of years ago for him to be “black”, not him and not black people. Look at the history and you will understand why.
The actress Hally Berry once said in an interview that although her mother is white and that makes her half white her skin color is that of a black person. So she always considered herself black, because that is what people see her as, but she knows she is both and doesn’t see any reason to go around correcting people.
Steph, I am also the mother of bi-racial children and I totally agree with you!
We are very ‘hung up’ about race in the US. We go by skin color. People like Obama, Tiger Woods, Colin Powell, etc., we consider them black only because they are -dark-. That’s just how it is.
There are probably very few blacks in the US who don’t have some white blood in them. In fact the vast majority of us are a mixture of things.
OBama himself has systematically abandoned his white heritage since his early youth. He is a mulatto, fathered by a black Moslem from Kenya but claims to be African American so he could benefit from affirmative action to advance his ambitions.
Appearance. He looks more “black” than “white”. He might more accurately be called caramel. Most of us “white” folks are actually beige or tan. A wise person is color blind and judges people on their character.
“Black” is a moniker used to describe the color of his skin, not a delve into his personal heritage.
Whether he is black or white doesn’t matter as long as you vote for him. Vote for the half that you like!
