  The Last Herald Mage Trilogy: Magic’s Pawn; Magic’s Promise; Magic’s Price
  these series cover all those bases and then some! I loved them all and couldn’t stop reading them once i started.

  If you want a challenge, The Malazan series by Steven Erikson, but I doubt you’re intellectual enough for them. All those books are grade school beginner books compared to Erikson.

  A Big series, but it is the best writing i have ever seen. Also Golden Compass by Paul Pullman
