The Host: A Novel (Hardcover)

The Host: A Novel

Amazon.com ReviewAmazon Best of the Month, May 2008: Stephenie Meyer, creator of the phenomenal teen-vamp Twilight series, takes paranormal romance into alien territory in her first adult novel. Those wary of sci-fi or teen angst will be pleasantly surprised by this mature and imaginative thriller, propelled by equal parts action and emotion. A species of altruistic parasites has peacefully assumed control of the minds and bodies of most humans, but feisty Melanie Stryder won’t surrender her mind to the alien soul called Wanderer. Overwhelmed by Melanie’s memories of fellow resistor Jared, Wanderer yields to her body’s longing and sets off into the desert to find him. Likely the first love triangle involving just two bodies, it’s unabashedly romantic, and the characters (human and alien) genuinely endearing. Readers intrigued by this familiar-yet-alien world will gleefully note that the story’s end leaves the door open for a sequel–or another series. –Mari Malcolm

    A Parasitic Alien invasion!
I’m glad that this was the first Stephanie Meyer’s book I read of hers. If I would have read the Twilight series first, I would have not bothered to pick this one up.

This book exceeded my expectations. It was far better than the Twilight series, which I also enjoyed.

It was a long road, but I’m hooked!
I’m not going to give a long synopsis of what goes on in this novel, nor am I going to go into which characters I liked the best or which part of this book was my favorite.

    bland and disappointing
I’ll say it out right: I don’t really like Stephenie Meyer. Twilight was ok–at first–and ended awfully.

    Meyer’s Lost It
Meyer really lost her talent after Eclipse. I agree with the other reviewer’s who claim that the book never really changed, because it didn’t.

    Stephenie Meyer’s delivers again!
Stephenie Meyer’s first Adult Fiction novel and she did not disappoint. Meyer’s has an uncanny ability to make the most unlikely characters completely understandable.
